solar energy star appliances

By Theresa Ficazzola

Back in the 1970’s, way before climate change became a big deal, President Richard Nixon presented the House and Senate with a groundbreaking 37-point message on the environment. He also created a council to organize federal government programs designed to reduce pollution. As a result, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was formed.

In 1992, the EPA launched the Energy Star Program to help stem the tide of wasteful energy consumption and improve its efficiency.  A product that is labeled “Energy Star” means it has increased energy efficiency to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also saves consumers money.  In fact, a typical household can save more than $575 on their energy bills with these types of products.

Since its inception (through 2018), the Energy Star program and its partners have helped American families and businesses save more than 4 trillion kw hours of electricity and achieve over 3.5 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions—that’s equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 750 million cars.

And in 2018 alone, Energy Star and its partners helped Americans avoid $35 billion in energy costs by purchasing more than 300 million Energy Star certified products and more than 300 million Energy Star certified light bulbs.

Consider Solar Panels in NY or NJ

While solar panels are not part of the Energy Star program, they offer tremendous benefits to homeowners and the environment. To help address the negative effects of climate change, the solar industry has set a goal to reach 20% electricity generation with solar by 2030.

You can do your part to help the environment by purchasing a new Energy Star appliance or light bulbs. However, you can make an even bigger personal impact on the environment—and help reach the solar industry’s 20% goal—by installing rooftop solar panels on your home in New York or New Jersey. It’s easy with a certified (NABCEP) installer, such as SI Solar. Get qualified HERE.
