According to Holistic Health Pathways, spiritual wellness refers to a state of harmony and balance in one’s spiritual life. It encompasses a sense of purpose, meaning, and connection to something greater than oneself.

The month of March is Spiritual Wellness Month. It’s a way to highlight the importance of nurturing the spirit alongside the body and mind. And March is a fitting month for such an undertaking since March also ushers in spring, a time for renewal and a fresh start.

Connect With Your Inner Self

“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is enlightenment.” – Lao Tzu

So how can you connect with your inner self?

· First of all, you need to make time for yourself, doing things you enjoy and also make time for reflection and being quiet. For some people that might mean meditation. For others, that could just be spending some time alone in quiet thought, enjoying being outside with nature, listening to soothing music, going for a walk, or spending time with a pet.

Once you decide what type of quiet time you want to pursue, decide on the best time of day to accomplish it. Perhaps it’s early morning before everyone else is awake, or late at night when everyone else is sound asleep, or on the weekend when you can devote more time and energy to it with less distractions.

· Second, you need to find purpose in your life. Sometimes life is so busy, we go through the motions of the day (working, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the house and kids). While all those tasks are important, and for some, they may give you purpose (like caring for a child or parent), you may think that there is more to life than that and yearn for a bigger purpose.

For example, you can take your love of animals and volunteer at a local shelter. You can further your interest in art and take a night art class at a local college. You can take your ability to multi-task and offer that skill set to a non-profit in need of someone with your abilities. By strengthening your interests and connections in a more meaningful way, you can create more of a sense of harmony and balance in your life.

· Third, document your journey. Whether it’s a handwritten journal, typed notes on your computer or phone, writing down your feelings, your accomplishments and what you’re grateful for will boost your mood. And if you decide to go “old school” and use an actual journal, you can also include sketches or drawings, too.

Documenting your wellness journey will help to remind you of what things made you happy and content, so you can put more energy into them moving forward.

Becoming more in tune with your inner feelings by connecting with other people and institutions outside of your normal, regular, every day life can improve your mental clarity and emotional well-being.

Make an Impact on the World with Solar Energy

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” – W.B. Yeats

When deciding on how you can make an impact on your life—and that of future generations—consider a bigger purpose, such as helping to fight climate change by installing solar panels on your roof in New York City or New Jersey. Today, solar energy is needed more than ever.

A 2024 United Nations report warned again that action is needed immediately to meet the 1.5°C goal to cap rising temperatures set in the Paris Agreement on climate change. Without dramatic cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, the world could face an inevitable and catastrophic 3.1°C temperature rise, according to the report.

The report shows significant potential to reduce emissions by up to 31 gigatons of CO₂ by 2030, which translates to roughly 52% of emissions reported in 2023, and by 41 gigatons by 2035, helping to meet the 1.5°C target for both years.

The UN report believes that boosting solar photovoltaic and wind energy usage could contribute 27% of the total reduction in 2030 and 38% by 2035.

That’s good news for everyday global citizens like you. Individually, you have the power to make a difference in the world. Plus, there are direct financial benefits to you, too. Not only will you save money on your monthly electric bill, but you can also lock in your utility rate to avoid future rate increases. The federal, state and local government incentives on a complete solar system for your home make solar panels an affordable option for your home energy use. Plus, you’ll be doing your part to help the planet.
